Optional Swim Session at the Solomon Center on April 27th 2-4

Hello Tri Club Families,

The Solomon Center optional swim session is now open for enrollment.  $10 per session, per child.  An adult responsible for your child will need to stay at the training session. If your child is going with another family, make sure you send the signed waiver with your child.

Session - Sunday, April 27th from 2p-4p

Swim practices held at the outdoor heated pool at Solomon Calhoun Community Center & Pool, 1300 Duval Street, St. Augustine, Florida.
http://www.co.st-johns.fl.us/Recreation/CC/SCCC.aspx

PLEASE make sure your kids bring: transition towel (small hand towel), goggles, bottle of water, running shoes, regular towel for drying off, bike helmet and the signed waiver for each of your kids (attached). No Bikes.

$ due to Coach Underwood by 4pm, Thursday, April 24:
 Session - Sunday, April 27th  from 2p-4p

Information from Solomon about the 2 hour session:
At the beginning of each session we will swim test the students. They will be given their “green” card and will not need to retake at another YMCA. This will take about 15 min. Each 2 hour session or Clinic will take the participant through what to expect during transition from the swim to bike. 20-30 minutes of practice jumping out of the pool and transitioning. And 45-60 minutes of swim stroke development.

Completed swim registration form ( on the google doc attached to this email), Solomon Calhoun Waiver (attached), and cash or check made payable to YMCA of Florida's First Coast is due to Mrs. Underwood by the Thursday before the session(s) you choose. Solomon is setting these sessions up just for our team/kids. As a result, they are bringing in swim instructors for our sessions based on the headcount we give them on Thursday afternoons preceding the swim session. If you commit for your child to attend a session and something changes after Thursday, your money can’t be refunded for that session as the swim instructors have been contracted and will have to be paid.

Kids need additional pool time? This is a St. Johns County public pool. The YMCA manages it. You don’t need to be a member of the YMCA to use it. If you are looking for additional pool time for your child, this pool is open most days of the week for family swim time and lap swimming. Check out their schedule on their website and pricing. I believe it is only $2 per adult and $1 per child.

YMCA Hands-On Triathlon Clinic

Brooks YMCA is offering a free Hands On Triathlon Clinic to our CCE Team. It will take place on Saturday, April 26 at 1:30. This is a three hour clinic and will help our kids tremendously! J They will need everything to participate…swim suit, goggles, towel, bike, helmet, sneakers, sunscreen. Optional items: socks, shirt and or shorts to wear over swim suit once done swimming, sunglasses, hat, extra towel, and extra clothes. Sometimes they will use a towel to lay at their transition area to mark where their bike is amongst all the other bikes, a bright noticeable color so they can bring that too if they want.
I am so excited they are offering this! We need to know by next Friday if your child plans on going. Here is the link to the Google Doc for you to sign your child/children up for this clinic. Please submit each child separately. If you know of anyone else who is participating in the Kids Triathlon in May OR anyone who is interested and hasn’t decided yet, you can send this link for them to sign up for this free clinic as well. We have 80 spaces, so first come, first to get in.

I will also add this link to the blog…

First Practice Reminder

CCE Tri Club Practices begin next week. If you haven’t already done so, please click on the participant form on the right and complete for each child you have registered. This is the only list of students that I have, our practices and the event are not connected, so if you have registered with the Kids Triathlon, but not with me, I do not have your child on my list. If you know of others who are participating in practices, please tell them to go to the blog and complete that form.

Your child should be attending one practice per week, and soon a schedule for optional swim practices will be sent out.
Next week we will learn how to run and how to breathe while we are running. The hardest skill to teach children is to pace themselves so that they don’t exhaust themselves by sprinting. So, next week we will be running. Please send your child to school in the clothes and shoes they will be practicing in on that day. This saves time because we don’t have 20+ students needing to change clothes. J Please pack them a bottle of water (with their name on it) and a snack for them to eat before we get moving. When school is dismissed, Tri Club will be dismissed to Mrs. Underwood’s classroom. Once they are here, they will be checked in, eat their snack, and we will have an indoor lesson before we going outside to stretch and run. We will be running on the track which is on the right side of CCE. When practice is over, they will stay on the bus loop until a parent comes to get them.
·       If you marked that they are extended day, they will need to check in with Extended day first before coming to Mrs. Underwood’s classroom. When practice is over, a parent volunteer will walk them to extended day.
I will send an email reminder each week on what we are working on and what needs to be brought to school.
I can’t wait to get started, I will see all your kiddos next week!
Please email me with any questions. J
